New York Fashion Week - Gypsy Sport

I discovered Gypsy Sport in a very random way, the brand was featured on an episode of America's Next Top Model, and I thought the clothes were really great!  The brand is sporty and casual, but also has a street vibe and pushes boundaries.  At the beginning of the AW17 show, instead of providing show notes, the designer made a heart felt speech about his inspiration for the collection.  Designer Calvin Luo was in Paris beginning to think about his AW17 collection and he saw all of these refugee  villages, and then he went to Mexico, where a lot of his production is done, and he also saw there lots of people living on the streets.  And then he went to LA and again people living outside.  Lou wanted to shed light on these people and celebrate them through this collection.  The collection is hugely inspired by these people and asked us, the viewers, to also think of these people as we watched the show.  Luo's closing remark was that through developing this collection and interacting with these people he learned a lot about humanity.

The runway had a row of tents in the middle and the music was provided by a family who was amazing on pickle drums.  The models were alternative, different shapes and sizes.  The collection was heavy on camouflage and tie dye with loose fitting silhouette.

I love knowing the background behind a collection, something that isn't really known to the consumer purchasing the clothes.  I was super happy to be apart of the show!

The models were moving so quickly so my photos are not the greatest, you can also view the whole collection here.
