London Fashion Week - Day 3

Day 3 of my LFW experience was a bit crazy.  I was working as a dresser for the KTZ show at a venue that I was told was in the Southbank.  The call time was 5:00.  When I put the directions in google it took me somewhere in East London and I went with it.  I ended up at a dead end in a residential area.  Starting to panic, it was 4:50, I quickly figured out where exactly I was meant to be and it would take me 40 minutes by public transport to make it to the venue.  In this industry it is just unacceptable to be late especially when a team is relying on me.  So I jumped in a taxi, continuously asking him if he knew where he was going, and made it there, but 20 minutes late.  Although being late is not ideal, they hadn't started the briefing yet.  Upon arrival we had to put all bags and mobile phones in the cloakroom, it was absolutely imperative that no photos get released pre show time.  We gathered back, were put into teams, and assigned a group of models.  I was in charge of 2 models, both wearing brilliant looks that I became acquainted with.  Once the models arrived it started to get busy, I was in charge of my models and needed to know where they were at all times.  The makeup and hair room was sea of models that all started to look the same as the same makeup and hair style was applied.  About 1 hour before the show the models needed to be dressed and ready to walk the catwalk for a rehearsal.  My models were both wearing these fishnet tights with beautifully sewn beading that took some time to get on, but once those were on the rest of the outfits were a breeze.

It was amazing to see the whole collection standing in the line waiting to start the show, with full hair and makeup, most of the models in wigs, you could really see it as a collection, I wish I had an image to show you.  KTZ definitely showed show garments that the average person would find hard to wear in their everyday life, but that is what was great about this show, and other designers like KTZ.  It just goes over a boarder where it is no longer commercial, but not yet theatrical.  Designers like these are what make me excited about fashion, they cause the consumer or the viewer to actually think about what is in front of them.  It just made me feel really good to be apart of the team that put this all together, even if it was just as a dresser.

These were actually the models that I dressed, they looked amazing!

London Fashion Week - Day 2 Part 3

I was getting so sad that the day was coming to an end, but I had one more show to attend.  It wasn't a show I was super excited about attending, it was a designer I had never heard of, although an amazing day, it was starting to become a long day, but once I was there I was so happy I went.  The designer was Marla Yazarloo.  Also along with this show were emerging designers, which was also really interesting.  One stand out emerging designer was Katie Roberts-Wood.  Her clothes are a stylist's dream.  Image taken from Katie Roberts-Woods website.

Marla Yazarloo's clothes were great, and a bit unexpected, something that you may see for Autumn/Winter vs. Spring/Summer.  But she showed some great dresses and jackets and used really rich colors.  The knitwear and embroidery were very nice, and I love those suede boots.

London Fashion Week - Day 2 Part 2

After the Sibling show I was so excited for the next one.  The next show was by Little Shilpa, and it was located in a very cute bar in Soho called The Library.  It was called a presentation, so basically the models walk around continuously, for a period of time.  The focus of the show was on headpieces that were beautifully constructed.  The theme of the show was a bit Alice in Wonderland, models carried props, and would interact with each in a sitting room at the front.  Models would come down a staircase and form a scene in the sitting area, almost like a painting.  It was really great to see another way that designers are showing at Fashion Week.

London Fashion Week - Day 2 Part 1

After a great experience working at the Lulu Liu show I was so excited for my 2nd day of London Fashion Week, because now I was actually going to have a ticket in hand and watching the shows with all the other fashionable people who are lucky enough to attend fashion week.  I wasn't sure what to expect, what shows I would actually have tickets to.  We met one of the lecturers from The London College of Style (where I am currently a student) who distributed our tickets, basically at random.  I would be attending 2 shows and 1 presentation.  The first show I would be attending would be Sibling, a designer I had never heard of.  But I didn't care, I was just happy to be going.  We made our way to the show, I actually had a seat, which is a special line who gets to go in first.  Walking into the space was magically, at one point I got a bit emotional, but I held it together, it's just a dream coming true, and it's a really great feeling, one that I hope I can experience over and over again.

There is so much to cover in this 1 day that I have had to break up the day into 3 parts, check back in the next couple of days for part 2 and 3!

Sibling
The show it's self was very young and fresh with lots of beautifully knit pieces making use of patterns and channeling the end of the 70s into the 80s fashions.  Vinyl was also used, although I haven't included any of those, because I'm not quite sure how wearable it is, but you can see the full collections f you click on vogue.com below.  I wasn't expecting swimwear, but it was SS16 after all, it was great!

London Fashion Week - Day 1

I am so exciting to share with you my 1st experience, hopefully the first of many more, with Fashion Week.  As a stylist attending fashion week in any of the fashion capitals, New York City, London, Milan, or Paris, is an absolute dream.  The feeling that you get walking into that first show, oh I wish I could feel it everyday!

My first day though of attending London Fashion Week was as a dressier for the Lulu Liu show.  I had not know about this designer prior to being assigned to her show, but her pieces were beautiful.  And she showed lots of dresses which I thought were perfect for sharing with you!  A bit about the designer, she is originally from China and came to the UK to study at the London College of Fashion.  She is young, with a great spirit, and was really kind to everyone backstage.

Being a dressier is definitely not glamorous, there was a lot of waiting around, until about 30 minutes before the show when the models come in and need to get dressed, but it is really great to be backstage for it all, to see the models line up, to hear the music, what an awesome experience.

The professional photos taken below are from Vogue.com.  The dresses showed beautiful beading, and incorporated fabric weaving with fringe that added a lot of movement.

I have also included some photos from my experience backstage.

New York Fashion Week Highlights Part 3

So I hadn't planned on NYFW being a 3 part review, but there were just too many great designers not to do another one to finish it up.  Below you will find some more great dresses, these are really the show stopper dresses, dresses that you hope one day you would be fortunate enough to wear, to have somewhere to wear them to.

And be sure to check back in soon, as this weekend I will be working and attending London Fashion Week, and I will be sharing everything and another round of highlights from LFW.

Oscar de la Renta
Year after year and Oscar is still at it, making amazing dresses, really for all shapes and sizes, using varying lengths and waistlines.  This season he showed a lot of red, a lot of lace, and a lot of florals, florals in a subtle, simple way, be it in a pattern or as an overlay.

Naeem Khan
This is a pattern lovers absolute dream!  The patterns that Naeem Khan showed for SS16 are amazing!  Using vibrant colors, florals, stripes, it was all there.

Marchesa
Definitely one of the go to designers for all of the major award shows and parties.  With a focus on multi colored gowns and a beautiful shade of pink, dress after dress was amazing, one after the other, with lots of ruffles and tulle.  I would love to show the whole collection, but below is only my absolute favourites, click here for to view the whole collection.

Thom Browne
And to finish my review up, a designer who yo probably never heard of, but is definitely one to watch.  I think the theatre geek in me loves this.  These have a lot of drama, and I absolutely love the personality with each design.  Not particularly all dresses, most are skirts I believe, but worth showing!
