New York Fashion Week Highlights Part 1

New York Fashion Week is the start of what is an amazing month of fabulous fashion starting in New York City, then to London, Milan, and Paris.  It is a chance to see all the exciting things to come for SS16.  Will the 70s still be a big trend, and florals have been in full force for a couple of seasons now, will designers be moving on from the tropical florals that were big for spring?

BCBG Max Azria
If I need a dress for a wedding, or a special event, it is usually one of the first brands I go to.  They always have great dresses and sometimes you can get really good deals in the sales.  Lots of pattern in the collection, mixing sheer with knit fabrics, and showing both pastel and bold colors.

Red Valentino
They are probably my absolute favourite design house, at least right now.  I love everything they do, and was so excited that they showed early, but I will say I was a bit underwhelmed.  There offering was very boho style with lots of pastels, ribbons tied into bows, very "little bow peep", but also showing a bit of black, they offered lots of different lengths for skirts and dresses.  There were still a few that I thought were just amazing, I've shown those below!

Marissa Webb
I have not heard of Marissa Webb, you may also not know her, but she has worked in design for some pretty large retailers, Banana Republic and J.Crew.  There is a great article here, http://fashionista.com/2015/09/marissa-webb-fashion-week, that gives some insight into her prep for Fashion Week.  She has a great selection of dresses offering a variety of color from red, to pink, to army green, to yellow.  She also used ribbons and tassels tied around the neck, as Red Valentino did, may that be a trend?

Tadashi Shoji
Another designer that I had not heard of, but apparently is sold in 700 retailers around the world.  His work is amazing, just see below for yourself.  Lots of layers of sheer amazing fabric, using white as the background in most pieces and then layering with jewel tones and floral motifs.
